photo-exhibition and events in memorial of the student's strike of 1976 in Soweto
On June 16, 1976 pupils and students began a strike against the Apartheid Regime that was put down with tremendous brutality. The photographs of the young demonstrators were shown worldwide. Soweto became a symbol of resistance in the fight against Apartheid.
A photo exhibition and a series of events commemorated the student uprising and the events of June 1976. Our aim was to find out what happened to the hopes and goals of the generation that risked so much to obtain the same rights and opportunities for the entire black population in South Africa at the time.
In partnership with Eine Welt Netzwerk and many South African groups here in Hamburg, CulturCooperation organised a varied program geared to accompany the exhibition.
